Chapter 11: Don’t Come Any Closer!
The small landlord’s face stiffened; the slight smirk that had been creeping up never had a chance to spread fully before it was abruptly halted by the unexpected question, his self-satisfied grin extinguished in an instant.
In a flash of inspiration, his mind shifted.
“Don’t be fooled by her age—she’s surprisingly agile. She can even do a backflip. Grandma, why don’t you show them a trick?” The small landlord patted Jiang Wan Ning’s shoulder and winked suggestively.
“...”
Do you really think I can?
Asking an elderly woman to do a backflip—isn’t that a bit much?
Jiang Wan Ning was speechless.
The big man was curious too. An old lady doing a backflip would certainly be a spectacle.
“Come on!”
“Yeah, we want to see!”
Seeing their eager faces, Jiang Wan Ning could only chuckle bitterly. Maybe she should put on a show of dropping dead on the spot—would that be more entertaining?
Pretending to move, Jiang Wan Ning suddenly felt the small landlord grab her hand, squeezing through the relaxed vigilance of the big men, breaking through the encirclement to run...
But running was impossible.
Could two inexperienced amateurs escape professionals? Not a chance.
Both were dragged back, each with a panda eye, and thrown into a corner.
“I knew there was something fishy about those two. Brother, why not take them back to Mr. Lu? That way, we can have some answers.” Another big man suggested.
“Fine.”
Robbery turns into kidnapping?
The small landlord had a sudden, terrible idea.
He poked Jiang Wan Ning’s shoulder and whispered, “I’ll hold them off for a while. When you see a chance, run and call the police to save me.”
His voice was barely above a whisper, but facing a group of martial artists with trained ears, his quiet words were heard loud and clear.
“This brat is always restless. Brother, why don’t we just break his legs first?” the henchman snarled nonsensically.
“Good idea.”
At that, the small landlord’s face drained of color.
Break his legs? That would hurt so much.
No, he was afraid of pain!
“We’ll go with you peacefully. Please don’t hurt anyone,” Jiang Wan Ning intervened.
The small landlord looked utterly innocent—he was treated well, fed, and kindly accompanied her here. If they broke his legs, she’d have a heavy conscience.
At worst, she could slit her own throat. If they dared to break his legs, she’d surely come back to life; after all, she had died so many times already and wasn’t afraid anymore.
Her words were completely ignored. To them, Jiang Wan Ning was just a background figure. What could an old woman do? Kidnapping her was a burden—they might accidentally kill her and cause trouble. Their target was clear: the young man.
---
The henchman wielding an iron rod strode menacingly toward the small landlord.
The small landlord’s face went pale. A fragile college student, he had never seen such a scene before. His limbs went weak, struggling desperately to break free but overwhelmed by the man’s strength. He could only helplessly flail his hands.
“You want me? Don’t hurt him...” he pleaded.
“Old lady, shut up. It’s none of your business. Say another word and you’ll get hit too.”
Jiang Wan Ning remained silent.
The big man raised the iron rod, ready to slam it down hard on the small landlord’s kneecap...
Jiang Wan Ning gritted her teeth, a surge of fury bursting from her head, her chest burning with overwhelming rage, yet powerless because she was restrained.
She hated it.
Hated her own weakness and the unfairness of fate.
Why was she destined to be a mere pawn, manipulated at will?
Why were they the protagonists, able to demand her kidney and expect her to give it willingly?
She refused to accept it!
She would not submit!
“Damn it, why doesn’t a lightning bolt just strike these bastards down?” Jiang Wan Ning cursed in frustration.
No sooner had she spoken than the sky darkened suddenly. The once bright blue canopy was quickly shrouded by a vast black curtain of clouds, rolling and surging as if a mighty army thundered within.
Then, a blinding bolt of lightning split the black veil like a knife descending from the heavens, striking the henchman holding the iron rod.
The rod was instantly enveloped in a brilliant glow as electric currents, like agile silver snakes, slithered along it, crackling with terrifying sounds. The powerful electricity spread through his body, making his hair stand on end. His clothes were instantly singed, emitting pungent smoke.
Moments later, he collapsed with a dull thud, kicking up a cloud of dust.
As the smoke cleared, he lay there foaming at the mouth.
Silence fell over the scene.
Could it be...
Was that iron rod a lightning rod?
Of course not!
Could this be the legendary golden finger?
It must be.
It had to be.
Jiang Wan Ning’s heart leapt with joy.
Still uncertain, it might have been a coincidence.
Why not test it?
Her gaze shifted to the leader of the henchmen.
---
Of course, the henchman was watching her too.
Their eyes met—two pairs locking in a tense exchange.
One wore a serious expression.
The other was eager, almost challenging.
An odd harmony twisted through the tension.
The henchman felt insulted. How dare an old woman look at him with such provocation?
He, the elite bodyguard, a martial arts master who could take on ten martial artists barehanded, a special forces soldier who even his comrades feared—yet now, he was scorned by a frail old lady.
This was unbearable. His uncle might tolerate it, but his aunt would not.
“I don’t believe this crap. If lightning is so powerful, come strike me! Come on!” he challenged arrogantly.
Jiang Wan Ning’s eyes brightened. This wasn’t intentional—it was his own doing.
“Lightning, strike him!”
With a delicate wave of her hand, thunder roared in the sky. Suddenly, a dazzling bolt of lightning, without warning, shot down from the thick clouds, striking the henchman with deadly precision.
No matter how fast his movements, human strength could not withstand the wrath of heaven. The henchman was instantly scorched, his body roasted to a crisp. The overwhelming force sent him flying backward like a broken kite, blood spewing from his mouth, unconscious on impact.
Ha!
I told you, misfortune can’t last forever. As a transmigrator, it’s only fair I get some benefits. Here they come.
It was her turn now.
Had she known she had this skill earlier, she wouldn’t have been so afraid of Lu Jingchen or Ji Chen. One by one, she would have wiped them out. Two at a time? She’d have annihilated the whole group. No need to flee in such fear and caution.
They’d all be dead by now.
Ha!
Ha ha!!
Ha ha ha!!!
She was crazy. She was flying high.
Amid the sudden shift from despair to joy, a faint, wild red gleam flickered in Jiang Wan Ning’s eyes.
She moved.
The remaining henchmen trembled.
No way—this old lady really has magic? The elders always said that with age, one might glimpse the world’s hidden mysteries. Could it be true?
She moved again.
The henchmen trembled once more.
Don’t come any closer!
