Volume One, Chapter Seventeen: How Dare You Show Your Face Here Again
I stared silently at Bo Congnan’s furious face. He had only been gone a short while, yet he had already listened to Meng Xiangyi again. He was planning to catch a cheating husband. But I was dead—where could there be a cheating husband?
Having been through what I did before, I was somewhat calmer this time. Yet my hatred for Meng Xiangyi and Bo Congnan only deepened. If heaven granted me another chance, I would never let that treacherous pair off the hook.
“No wonder last time you said Shen Zhiyi sold so many things for money—it must have been to support some wild lover on the side!” Bo Congnan’s expression darkened beyond mere difficulty. I cast him a cold glance.
Bo Congnan, what right do you have to despise me? You yourself are nothing but a filthy, rotten cucumber.
Baihua Street.
Meng Xiangyi steadied the car to a stop, and the passenger window slowly rolled down. Nearby, a street race was in full swing—the screech of tires against pavement, the roar of modified engines echoing like wild beasts. One sleek sports car after another sped by, laughter and teasing voices rising and falling inside.
Bo Congnan watched coldly but fixed his gaze on the red supercar. With its upgrades, it had been boosted several levels in performance, running at an astonishing speed. The woman in the passenger seat had snow-white skin and elegant features, illuminated by the dim yellow lights of Baihua Street. She looked exactly like me. Even if I stood there in person, I might mistake her for myself.
The woman tilted her head to speak to the driver, their laughter drifting out now and then. Bo Congnan’s face darkened further, his eyes growing colder. Suddenly, he raised his hand to open the car door, but Meng Xiangyi grabbed him sharply.
“Congnan, what are you doing?”
Bo Congnan’s voice was icy. “I’m going to bring that bitch Shen Zhiyi back and deal with her garbage once and for all.”
Meng Xiangyi soothed him, “Don’t rush. This street race is illegal. If you get involved, it could affect the upcoming NJ international event. If the team is banned, the losses will be irreparable.”
At moments like this, only self-interest could calm Bo Congnan’s rage. Clearly, he was already beyond reason. I saw ruthlessness flickering in his eyes.
Meng Xiangyi pulled out her phone and snapped several photos. “Although I’m Zhiyi’s sister, I still think what she’s doing is wrong. Now that things have come to this, the most important thing is to gather evidence. Take these photos to Old Master Bo. I believe he won’t blame you anymore for Zhiyi running away.”
Old Master Bo had always disliked Meng Xiangyi and constantly pressured Bo Congnan to find me. Her move was clearly meant to make Old Master Bo despise me completely.
What was her true purpose?
To hide the truth of my death and then smoothly marry Bo Congnan?
I had long given up hope in Bo Congnan. Sure enough, upon hearing Meng Xiangyi’s words, he gave up the idea of getting out of the car, not even bothering to confirm whether the woman inside was me.
“Sister Xiangyi, thank goodness for you.”
Leaning on Meng Xiangyi’s shoulder, Bo Congnan seemed unusually dependent.
Then, softly, he said, “Sister, from now on, you only have me as your brother, okay?”
As he spoke, his eyes glimmered with a strange light, as if he longed to imprison Meng Xiangyi, making her his one and only sister.
I had seen such a look before.
I was strikingly beautiful; many boys had approached me. Once, while walking my dog near home, I ran into a schoolmate. We chatted briefly and agreed to walk our dogs together again. A few days later, his dog was killed by a car—bloodied and broken.
Only later did I learn that the car belonged to Bo Congnan.
He explained it wasn’t intentional, just an accident. I believed him, but one sentence he said still haunts me: “I hate it when others covet what’s mine.”
Even now, it sends chills down my spine.
Inside the cramped car, Bo Congnan’s lips parted slightly as he nibbled on Meng Xiangyi’s earlobe. His long fingers roamed her body, and the temperature inside the vehicle rose steadily.
“All right, you are my only good brother.”
Bo Congnan smiled with satisfaction. “Sister, you’re so soft.”
Meng Xiangyi grasped his hand. “There are people outside.”
“Don’t worry, the windows have anti-peeping film. No one can see in. Isn’t that more exciting?”
I was truly speechless.
One moment ago, Bo Congnan was still angry; the next, he was playing games with Meng Xiangyi. Perhaps he truly believed I was cheating. With that assumption, his heart was completely unburdened, and he could indulge himself even now.
Bo family estate.
Bo Qindao threw the divorce papers in front of Bo Congnan with force. “Don’t even think about it!”
Bo Congnan’s eyes were filled with disgust. “Dad, that bitch Shen Zhiyi ran away over some trivial matter and is messing around with some wild man! Why shouldn’t I divorce her?”
“Just because of a few photos, you think Zhiyi cheated? Bo Congnan, have you lost your mind? Weren’t you the one who loved her most? Why are you throwing a fit about divorce without even asking?”
“Although the Shen family isn’t wealthy, they have standing in A City. If you get divorced right after marriage, who will want to marry you once word spreads?”
Bo Congnan picked up the divorce papers from the floor, which bore my signature.
His voice was cold. “Dad, these divorce papers were given to me by Shen Zhiyi. She insisted on divorcing me. I’m just granting her wish!”
Right, right. It’s all my fault. Bo Congnan has no blame at all.
He always did this—blaming the other party whenever he was at fault.
Now, wanting a divorce, it’s somehow my fault.
“Nonsense! Since you married Zhiyi, you can’t divorce her! I think you’ve gone mad!”
Bo Congnan’s expression was disdainful, his voice low and cold. “That Shen Zhiyi is a worn-out shoe that others have used. I don’t want her!”
He wouldn’t even touch trash tainted by others.
Smack—
Bo Qindao’s palm struck Bo Congnan’s face hard. I saw his cheeks flush immediately. Bo Qindao warned in a low voice, “I don’t care what conflicts you have with Zhiyi, but I don’t want to hear words like divorce or worn-out shoe again! You know how much your grandfather adores Zhiyi. If you keep this up, your grandfather will give the heir position to that outsider sooner or later!”
“Do you know why your grandfather hasn’t handed over the Extreme Phantom Technology to you, despite your years of experience in the racing team?”
Bo Congnan looked puzzled. “Why?”
Bo Qindao’s voice was stern. “Because your grandfather is making comparisons. The Bo family heir must have an almost flawless record. I heard Bo Bingqian is not only an anatomy professor but also ruthless behind the scenes, with sharp business acumen. His personal net worth nearly surpasses the entire Bo family. What do you have to compete with?”
His words were like a cold splash of water on Bo Congnan.
This was the difference between a genius and an ordinary person—at a similar age, Bo Bingqian had long since surpassed his peers.
I saw a trace of helplessness in Bo Congnan’s eyes.
Faced with such an extraordinary talent, anyone would feel powerless.
No matter how hard you try, you can’t match even one percent of their innate gift.
Upon hearing that Bo Congnan had returned to the Bo estate, Old Master Bo had specially summoned him.
Bo Congnan had tried to sneak back quietly but was discovered.
The moment he stepped inside, a commanding voice rang out.
“Kneel.”
No one in the Bo household dared defy Old Master Bo, and Bo Congnan, having grown up under such oppression, nearly collapsed with weak legs.
He fell to his knees before the old man.
No sooner had he knelt than a palm strike hit his face.
“You drove Zhiyi away, and you still have the nerve to come back!”
