Chapter 32: Xia Shuang Stirs Up Trouble
Fortunately, the place Ning Qi'er had chosen was not far, and Yu Zhi soon regained her sight. Everything unfolding before her eyes made her want to laugh.
In the center of the crowded square, Ning Qi'er signaled for the staff to pull back a massive curtain, revealing a life-sized statue of the two of them.
This was certainly not something that could have been conjured up overnight. If he hadn't planned this well in advance, she would gladly bang her head against it until she died!
He was a piece of work—coaxing her with promises of a divorce while treating their agreement like waste paper.
"Zhizhi, do you like it?"
As the culprit stood by, smugly gloating, Yu Zhi’s hand, which had been hanging at her side, slowly tightened. A split second later, her fist flew straight toward Ning Qi'er’s chest.
Having anticipated this, Ning Qi'er dodged quickly. The only unfortunate victim was the cameraman following behind him, who couldn't move out of the way in time and took the punch meant for Ning.
Seeing things go awry, Yu Zhi pulled her punch, but it still landed with a painful thud. The camera shook for a moment before the cameraman managed to steady it.
[What’s wrong with Yu Zhi? Did something happen to make her lash out like that?]
[Cameraman, are you afraid to show us what they’re looking at? Can you do your job or not? If you can’t, let me handle it!]
[President Ning’s reflexes are so sharp—are you sure he hasn’t been practicing for this?]
[Yu Zhi is such a violent woman. How many times has she hit someone now? Can’t they kick her off the show? She’s really ruining her reputation.]
The cameraman, having received instructions from the director early on, dared not show anything other than the two of them. He regretfully swallowed the juicy gossip he couldn't share and silently continued to film the pair.
"President Ning, would you like to offer an explanation?"
Yu Zhi wore a forced, mirthless smile. If looks could kill, Ning Qi'er would be facing a gruesome dismemberment right now.
To avoid another physical confrontation, Ning Qi'er kept his distance. "Everything you see is the explanation. Don't forget, we..."
The two continued to speak in riddles. Yu Zhi knew exactly what his confidence stemmed from, but she had her own leverage as well.
Her bright, fox-like eyes flashed with cunning. She looked up and nodded slightly. "President Ning, I don't believe I am worthy of being your partner. To avoid further conflict, it would be best if we went our separate ways."
With that, she took a couple of bills from her meager funds and stuffed them into Ning Qi'er’s pocket.
The cameraman saw that the situation was going off-script—what was he supposed to film if the main subject left? But remembering the director's orders, he shut his mouth.
Yu Zhi’s excuse was perfectly reasonable. She walked off in the opposite direction with an inconspicuous follower in tow, leaving Ning Qi'er's fate entirely out of her consideration.
Because of the statue, there were few people nearby, and Yu Zhi enjoyed a rare moment of freedom, untroubled by the chaos caused by others.
However, going their separate ways had been his plan all along; Ning Qi'er’s actions had simply accelerated it.
The director had only asked everyone to group up; there was no mandatory requirement for teams to stay together at all times, so Yu Zhi felt no guilt in breaking up the partnership.
After watching Yu Zhi leave, Ning Qi'er did not chase after her. Instead, he led his group in the opposite direction. Finding the walk boring, he casually brought up a few topics to interact with the live stream audience.
"Do you want to know what’s in the restricted areas of 'Starry Skies'?"
[Wow! Is President Ning acting as our tour guide today?]
[What have we done to deserve the great President Ning giving us a tour?]
[Mom, you asked why I’m watching this video on my knees—it’s because I’m worshiping!]
