At this moment, time seemed to freeze. In my mind, I had imagined two possible outcomes: either the D-class zombie would be pulverized by my punch, or it would be sent flying by the force of my blow.

However, reality proved to be ruthlessly cruel. Nothing happened before my eyes; my punch could not even have served to scratch an itch on it.

Immediately afterward, its left claw slashed down. A burst of blood sprayed from my chest, and I was sent flying backward by a ferocious and overwhelming force, leaving five deep bloody gashes torn across my clothing. Then, my consciousness gradually blurred, and I plunged into blackness...

......

I slowly awoke on a cold experimental table, surrounded by the persistent humming of instruments. On the display screens, rows of data flickered, coldly recording various metrics of my physical condition.

At some point, I had been changed into a new blue prisoner uniform. The cold, stiff fabric clung tightly to my skin, causing a wave of discomfort to wash over me.

Outside the glass observation window, a figure shifted. Seeing that I had regained consciousness, the person pushed open the door without a moment's hesitation and walked in.

It was a researcher, dressed in a white lab coat, holding a file folder tightly in his hand. His face bore no expression whatsoever, making him look like nothing more than a walking machine. He spoke, his voice cold and mechanical.

"Subject Number 5?"

I parted my lips slightly. My throat felt somewhat parched, but I still managed to muster a sound.

"Present!"

He flipped through the folder in his hand. Then, that chilling voice sounded once more, piercing my eardrums like shards of ice.

"Now announcing your various ratings from the trial grounds. Your final trial tier is merely Tier 2."

"Combat capability: Base spiritual power 60 points, strength 0 points, speed 0 points, stamina 0 points, physique 0 points."

"Final rating: D-minus!"

For a moment, I was stunned, my mind plunging into a complete blank. What ratings? What tiers? All of these terms were utterly foreign to me.

Yet when I heard the rating "D-minus," my heart gave a violent shudder. I realized that I was likely the worst-performing one among them all—the kind of existence looked down upon by everyone and cast away into some forgotten dark corner.

I wanted to open my mouth and ask questions, wanting to understand what on earth was going on, but the words died on my lips, unable to be uttered no matter how hard I tried.

The researcher efficiently dismantled the testing apparatus attached to my body one by one, the cold sensation gradually fading away.

At that moment, the door was pushed open once again, and two special operations soldiers walked in. This time, instead of putting handcuffs and leg shackles on me as usual, they merely made a simple gesture, signaling me to follow them.

I stood up mechanically and followed them out of the laboratory. Along the way, my heart was filled with doubt and unease.

I followed them into an elevator. It was only when the elevator started moving that I abruptly realized—it was ascending?

The elevator doors slowly slid open, revealing a towering circle of majestic black city walls. Within those walls lay a brightly lit, bustling, and thriving city, quietly nestled in the embrace of the perimeter wall like an isolated paradise cut off from the rest of the world.

We stood atop the crest of the city wall. Apart from its gloomy black hue, the contour of this wall bore a striking resemblance to the winding magnitude of the Great Wall.

Just as I was immersed in this sense of shock, a figure walked toward us. He was not particularly tall, slightly stout of build, and wore an honest, amiable smile across his face.

As he drew near, he gave a standard military salute to the two special operations soldiers beside me. The soldiers immediately spoke up, "Officer Feng, this is the D-minus waste subject! According to regulations, he belongs to you now!"

Before their voices had even faded, they turned and walked away, leaving me standing alone in a daze, feeling utterly lost.

Officer Feng before me began to look me over carefully, a glint of contemplation flashing in his eyes.

He muttered thoughtfully, "Brother, judging by your appearance, you don't look like a D-minus waste subject at all! Whose serum on earth did you inject? Could it be that you just choked from nervousness during the trial?"

Listening to this barrage of questions, my mind remained a blank slate. Naturally, I had no idea how to respond, so I could only stand there in silence, uttering not a single word.

Seeing my continued silence, Officer Feng sighed softly, opened the folder in his hand, and lowered his head to meticulously review my profile.

Suddenly, he let out a startled gasp. "Good grief! You... you're the main body?! How can this be..."

Right after that, his eyes widened as he stared fixedly at the file folder, with a look in his eyes as if he were staring at some horrifying monster.

His lips trembled slightly as he muttered to himself, "Trial tier Tier 2? Combat capability: strength 0 points, speed 0 points, stamina 0 points, physique 0 points?" With that, he drew in a sharp breath.

He abruptly raised his head, gazing at me with an incredulous expression, as though looking at some monumental joke.

"Brother, how did you manage this? So many zeros? Didn't you awaken any abilities at all?"

I maintained a blank expression, merely giving a light shake of my head while my inner thoughts remained as calm as unrippled water.

Seeing this, a smile suddenly blossomed on Officer Feng's face. He patted my shoulder and said with a warm grin, "It's fine! Don't worry about it! This is just a test after all, don't take it too hard. Come on, let's go change into our combat gear first, and I'll explain everything else to you in detail in a moment!"

With that, he turned and strode forward, and I followed closely behind him.

We arrived at a single-story building perched upon the city wall, with a police emblem prominently displayed above the doorway—evidently a resting place for the soldiers. Inside, rows of bunk beds were neatly arranged, exuding a subtle scent intertwined with the smell of metal and sweat.

Officer Feng cast a glance around the room, then reached out and pointed to one of the lower bunks. That was to be my dwelling place in this apocalyptic world from now on.

Subsequently, we entered the locker room, where a personal wardrobe belonged to me. I pulled open the door, and a set of form-fitting camouflage combat gear came into view. Its texture and tailoring were identical to the uniform Officer Feng was wearing.

I slowly put on the combat apparel. The tight fabric conformed to my skin, offering both flexibility and constraint, and the material felt extraordinary to the touch.

Furthermore, the locker was equipped with a fully automatic assault rifle. As I gripped the rifle stock, the cold metallic sensation ignited an inexplicable wave of excitement deep within my heart.

Officer Feng looked at me with a flicker of approval in his eyes. He patted my shoulder and laughed, "Brother, you've got a fine physique! It looks really sharp on you!"

Perhaps having been locked away alone for too long had made my facial muscles somewhat stiff, but at that moment, I managed to squeeze out a rigid smile.

Once all preparations were complete, I followed Officer Feng to the edge of the city wall.

He stood there, seemingly merging as one with the wall, and patiently began to introduce this place to me.

"The towering city wall beneath our feet..."

He pointed toward the majestic barrier, his tone filled with pride.

"Is constructed from reinforced concrete, standing ten meters tall. The top is covered with barbed wire and spikes, acting like an insurmountable chasm to prevent zombies from climbing over. The surface of the wall is coated with a thick ballistic layer, ensuring that even the most ferocious zombies cannot inflict any substantive damage upon it."
