Chapter 112: The Atmosphere Trio
Observing the crowd's reaction, Ye Qiu was completely bewildered, feeling awkward and unsure of what to do next.
He had merely blurted out a line from a video game. How could it have such a profound impact on these people? Did they really not play games? Oh, right! This world didn't have League of Legends; it was perfectly normal that they hadn't heard it. It seemed Master Yi was quite impressive after all—transcending worlds to show off? Who would have thought a single sentence could trigger such a massive reaction?
The Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow beneath Ye Qiu was equally confused. It felt as though everyone except itself understood the profound meaning behind those words. It was the only one left in the dark.
*Is this some sort of game? If you all act like this, doesn't it just make me look like an idiot? Oh, so you all understand, and I don't, is that it?*
*That's bullying a bird! Just because I haven't been to school doesn't mean you can bully me without restraint.*
*No, I can't let them find out I don't understand; that would be too embarrassing. As the master's closest subordinate, if I can't even understand the master's teachings, wouldn't I be a laughingstock?*
*I, the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow, am a dignified, ancient, and ferocious beast. I can lose my life, but I cannot lose face...*
Putting on a brave face, the Sparrow said to Ye Qiu, "Master, I find your words very reasonable!"
"What?" Ye Qiu blinked, momentarily stunned. Reasonable? What on earth was it talking about? What kind of bird-speak was that?
The Sparrow replied with a dead-serious expression, "A true master should always maintain the heart of a student. Awesome..."
Ye Qiu felt a bead of sweat roll down his forehead. He could see right through it—the bird genuinely didn't understand and was just pretending. Even if it acted the part, if you asked it to explain the meaning, it wouldn't be able to say a word beyond "awesome."
*Good grief, you really have grasped the essence of my philosophy! Everything can be summed up with a simple 'awesome'...*
Never mind, he couldn't be bothered to expose the bird. In reality, besides the Sparrow, there were plenty of others who didn't understand or grasp the hidden mystery. For instance, the other ancient, ferocious beasts like the Fearless Great Ape, the Suanni, and the Nine-Headed Lion—the same ones who had caused such a ruckus in front of Ye Qiu’s restaurant last time.
They didn't get it either.
Right now, they were even more miserable than the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow, their faces long and twisted with the regret of missing out on a grand enlightenment.
The Fearless Great Ape scratched its head, distressed. "What kind of nonsense is this? Again? We didn't hear enough last time? You're doing this on purpose to make things difficult for us..."
The Great Ape felt like crying. Last time, it had pulled out all the stops, using every trick in the book to pretend it understood Ye Qiu. It had acted so hard. The goal was simply to avoid looking stupid in front of others. It had thought that by leaving Ye Qiu, it would never have to suffer through this again, but here it was, happening all over again!
"This is too much! Weren't we supposed to be here for a fight? Damn it, I came all the way here, full and ready to go, and before we even trade a single blow, I have to act again?" The Nine-Headed Lion was even more depressed. It had heard from friends that there was a fight to be had in the Chaos Heaven, and as a battle-hungry fanatic, it had rushed over. But upon arrival, it saw several "gods" fighting, and it couldn't even intervene. It had hoped that once those gods were finished, it could finally clean up the small fry, but instead... Ye Qiu started babbling on and on. Why was he so annoying? Did he want them to fight or not?
"Stay calm!" The Suanni shot the two beasts a cold, haughty look, sneering, "You two simpletons. You can't even grasp such simple logic. I am ashamed to be associated with you..."
*Oh, give me a break!* It was acting so well! It clearly didn't understand either, yet it spoke as if it were a true sage. The Fearless Great Ape and the Nine-Headed Lion rolled their eyes at it, choosing to ignore the act.
*Pfft. We've been fighting for tens of thousands of years; we know exactly how much ink is in your belly. You can't fool us. Keep pretending!*
It had to be said, these three clowns were definitely the "atmosphere crew." It was a pity whoever had assigned them to the combat unit had completely wasted their talents.
After a moment of feigned realization, the crowd regained their composure and bowed respectfully to Ye Qiu in unison. "Thank you for the guidance, Senior! We are deeply grateful..."
"Ah?"
"Oh, no need for formalities! Everyone, rise..." Ye Qiu gave a guilty smile. He still had no idea what he had actually said, but it didn't matter. As long as he could keep playing the part, that was enough.
By now, the dark shadow had departed, taking the World-Ending Elder with it. The remaining twenty-plus dark titans stood beneath the void. They had no way out—above them was the void, where an even more terrifying figure, the one who had squared off against Ye Qiu in the void last time, was watching. Below them were a million beings of the Great Wilderness and a dozen land-immortal-level experts ready to strike at any moment. They dared not make a move.
Ye Qiu cast a cold glance at them. He had originally intended to ask them directly about the whereabouts of Ye Dong.
However, asking now seemed useless and would only alert the enemy. Ye Qiu didn't want to witness a tragedy of brothers turning against each other. Based on his experience reading hundreds of novels, in a plot like this, the brother would inevitably end up brainwashed or suffering from amnesia, returning to fight his sibling. Then, the older brother would be unable to bring himself to strike, dying tragically at the hands of the younger one. Only then would there be a plot twist where the younger brother suddenly regained his senses, avenged his brother, and finally retired to the mountains with his wife to live a life of bliss.
*Good heavens, I am a genius! I've even figured out the rest of the plot! This is so cliché...*
The more Ye Qiu thought about it, the more terrified he became. *Does this mean I'm going to be the sacrificial lamb in the protagonist's growth story? Damn it, that won't do!*
*No, no, I absolutely cannot allow this to happen. Even if it does, I won't be the one sacrificed. Little Dong, I'm sorry, but you'll have to take the hit! Brother doesn't want to die yet. Don't worry, I'll avenge you, and I'll take care of your wife for you. Go in peace...*
Thinking of this, Ye Qiu chuckled with a sinister "hehehe." *Better you die than me.* Though they were biological brothers, one still had to settle accounts clearly...
It had to be said, Ye Qiu’s imagination was quite powerful—he had managed to conjure up an entire cliché drama of brotherly betrayal all on his own.
"Uh... Senior, what are you laughing at? Why is your laughter so... eerie?" Ye Qiu's chuckle made the withered Daoist feel a chill down his spine, fearing he had done something wrong. The dark titans above were even more unnerved; the laughter was far more terrifying than any villain's signature cackle.
"Ahem... nothing! Enough talk. Attack! Take them out so we can go back to sleep early..." Ye Qiu gave an awkward laugh and issued the order to clear out the remaining dark remnants.
Instantly, the fires of battle surged once more. Driven into a desperate corner, the dark titans suddenly erupted with astonishing combat power. With their backs against the wall, they fought for their lives, launching a surprisingly fierce counterattack.
"Fight them to the death!"
"We're going to die anyway! Kill! Take as many as we can with us..."
"Don't be so arrogant!"
Just as the twenty-plus dark titans began their frantic onslaught, two beams of light simultaneously ignited in the sky.
