Seeing a group of people running off into the distance, Zhao Fan picked up another cane and strolled away leisurely. He had saved someone and earned five thousand yuan—quite a profitable deal, indeed.

After getting into a taxi, Zhao Fan received a call from Chen Jianyu.

“We’re on our way to the supermarket.”

“Alright, once there, have Chen Da arrange things for you.” Hanging up, Zhao Fan told the driver, “Take me to Feiteng Supermarket.”

“Which one?”

“The second one.”

Upon hearing this, the driver immediately turned the wheel and headed straight for the second Feiteng Supermarket.

When they arrived, Zhao Fan barely got out of the car before spotting Chen Da standing at the entrance.

Their eyes met, and Chen Da waved immediately: “Boss Zhao, you finally made it. The people have been arranged.”

Zhao Fan nodded. “Thank you for your hard work.”

A few minutes later, Zhao Fan met the female journalist from before.

“Hello, may I ask your name?”

She looked up. “I’m Qin Yueyi.”

“Reporter Qin.”

A bitter expression flickered across Qin Yueyi’s face. “I don’t deserve to be called a reporter.”

Zhao Fan replied, “You are a reporter by profession. Why wouldn’t you deserve the title?”

Qin Yueyi shook her head. “It’s not that simple. I made a mistake.”

Zhao Fan smiled lightly and glanced at the camera she held.

“May I ask, what’s on that camera?”

Noticing his question, Qin Yueyi instinctively tried to hide the camera behind her back but then quickly pulled her hands back again, likely realizing her reaction.

“There’s nothing much on this camera.”

Zhao Fan said, “Those people you mentioned—aren’t they quite formidable? Judging by the situation, they must have already caused you trouble. Are you sure you don’t want help?”

Qin Yueyi pursed her lips and lowered her head, silent.

Zhao Fan smiled gently, showing no urgency. Some decisions must be made by the person involved.

After about ten minutes, Qin Yueyi finally spoke.

“This matter isn’t something you should get involved in.”

“I know whether I should or not. You can tell me. After all, I know a constable.”

“You really know a constable?”

“I can call him over right now.”

Qin Yueyi’s face shifted in expression repeatedly, and after a long pause, she finally made up her mind.

“Call the constable over, and I’ll give him the evidence.”

“No problem.”

Zhao Fan called Fang Tiancheng to confirm he was okay and asked him to come to Feiteng Supermarket.

“There’s a journalist here. She might have something for you.”

Though puzzled, Fang Tiancheng arrived at the supermarket half an hour later.

“This is my ID. If you doubt me, you can call and verify.”

Qin Yueyi handed over her press badge, looked it over several times, then silently passed the camera to Fang Tiancheng.

“The contents on this camera are related to the Bai family.”

The words “Bai family” stirred something in Zhao Fan’s heart. Anything related to the Bai family was something he needed to investigate thoroughly.

Fang Tiancheng was also surprised by the journalist’s claim. He glanced at Zhao Fan but said nothing, instead focusing on reviewing the camera’s contents.

What he saw left him stunned.

The camera held only a few items: a blurry video and several photographs.

In the video, about ten people stood amid a pile of construction materials. Judging by the surroundings, it was likely a construction site.

“The quality of this batch of materials is worse than the last. When you use the next batch, add more high-quality stuff. If anything happens, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“Don’t worry. You keep the money; I’ll keep the materials. If anything goes wrong, they won’t be able to trace it back to you.”

“...”

There was more conversation, but Fang Tiancheng’s attention shifted to the photographs.

They documented the prices of goods being brought in and taken out, all neatly marked.

There were five photos in total, each different from the last.

Qin Yueyi said, “I took these at great personal risk. I don’t know how much impact they’ll have, but I must expose this.”

Fang Tiancheng sighed. “Just you alone? Forget exposing them. You might end up dead somewhere without anyone ever knowing. The Bai family isn’t someone to mess with.”

Zhao Fan hadn’t seen the photos, but he clearly heard the video conversation and guessed it was about issues with construction materials on the site. Hearing Fang Tiancheng’s words, he nodded thoughtfully.

“The Bai family is petty and vengeful. If something happens, they won’t let it go easily.”

Ignoring the wager involving Yang Yuqing, the Bai family had been relentlessly targeting him. If Qin Yueyi continued down this path, exposure was impossible. Most likely, as Fang Tiancheng said, she would disappear without a trace.

Qin Yueyi’s face turned pale. “I refuse to believe the Bai family can cover everything up.”

“You can try.” Fang Tiancheng casually handed the camera to Zhao Fan. “The Bai family has been harassing you relentlessly. Now you have evidence.”

After looking over the photos, Zhao Fan nodded. “This will indeed be useful to me.”

Qin Yueyi was speechless.

Why was he letting someone else see the evidence?

Fang Tiancheng explained, “His name’s Zhao Fan. This supermarket belongs to him. He has a grudge against the Bai family. If you really want to expose them, you can entrust the matter to him. When the time comes, if you get taken out, at least the Bai family will have been taught a lesson. Isn’t that the best outcome for both sides?”

Qin Yueyi was stunned. “You really...?”

“Do you see this leg?” Zhao Fan lifted his trouser leg to show her.

Qin Yueyi looked down. “That leg is...?”

“The Bai family sent people to attack me. Not only that, the mall I’m building is currently halted because of their interference behind the scenes.”

Zhao Fan recounted his situation and held the camera aloft.

“After all I’ve said, you should understand how useful this evidence is to me, right?”

To be honest, Zhao Fan hadn’t expected that a casual gesture on his part would grant him such leverage over the Bai family.

Good deeds sometimes do pay off.

Qin Yueyi bit her lip. “Can I trust him?”

She turned to ask Fang Tiancheng, who gave her a reassuring answer.

“You can trust him.”

“I want results in the shortest time possible.”

“No problem.”

No sooner had Zhao Fan finished speaking than his phone vibrated.

He checked the caller ID: Shi Wenxuan.

“I’m going to take this.”

After excusing himself, Zhao Fan stepped outside to answer.

As soon as he picked up, Shi Wenxuan said, “I’ve been beaten and admitted to the hospital.”

Zhao Fan was silent for a moment, then made sure he heard correctly.

“What hospital are you at?”

“Nanyuan Hospital.”

The same hospital Zhao Haitan had stayed at before.

Rubbing his brow, Zhao Fan said, “I’m tied up now. I’ll come over once I’m done here.”

Shi Wenxuan replied, “It’s nothing serious. Just letting you know the mall’s construction will be halted again.”

“It’s okay. Just a delay. As long as everyone’s safe.”

At this, Zhao Fan confided, “I’ve obtained something useful against the people we’re up against.”
