Chapter 46
"But... Dad, I..." Wu Peng still could not swallow his resentment. He opened his mouth to speak, but this utterly enraged Wu Tianhao. With a swift motion, he slapped Wu Peng hard across the face, then roared, "I told you to get out! Didn't you hear me?"
Wu Peng was inexperienced, just a pampered young master, oblivious to the dangers of the world. Wu Tianhao, on the other hand, was a titan of the business world, seasoned by years of struggle. His insight was naturally sharp!
A man who could prompt such a dramatic shift in Director Liu’s attitude could hardly be a mere nobody.
Seeing his son still failing to grasp the gravity of the situation, Wu Tianhao wished he could slap him a few more times to jolt some sense into his foolish head!
"Mr. Chu, this is my failing as a father. Please forgive my son for his offenses," Wu Tianhao said, his attitude making a complete reversal, just as Director Liu had done, lowering himself before Chu Tianhe.
The sudden change left all the guests in utter shock. Even Qin Xiaomeng was bewildered, unable to comprehend what on earth was happening.
"Come, since we're here, let's see how this charity evening is being run," Chu Tianhe said, a faint smile on his lips as he strode towards the front row of the audience. Qin Xiaomeng, still reeling from the shock, dared not say more and simply followed him.
Yet as she felt the hundreds of guests' eyes fixed upon her, Qin Xiaomeng could not help but feel uncomfortable. Anyone in her place would have felt the same under such scrutiny.
"Brother-in-law, what on earth just happened?"
"That Director Liu, why did he..."
Finally, after they were seated in the VIP section, Qin Xiaomeng could not contain herself and pressed for answers.
"It's nothing. I knew him from my days in the military—we have some history," Chu Tianhe replied casually. Suspicion flickered in Qin Xiaomeng’s eyes; she clearly didn’t believe his explanation. "Just... a bit of history, is that all?"
"Yes, that's all," Chu Tianhe replied with a gentle smile.
Seeing this, Qin Xiaomeng was still full of questions, but given the occasion, she chose not to pursue the matter further.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Wu Tianhao had hurried after Director Liu, following him backstage to the charity auction’s preparation area. He asked, "Director Liu, just who is this Chu Tianhe? How could he make you..."
"You were smart today!" Director Liu stopped, wiped the sweat from his brow, and lowered his voice. "Old Wu, do you realize that just now, your worthless son nearly brought ruin upon the entire Wu family?"
"What?" Wu Tianhao was taken aback and immediately asked, "Director Liu, what do you mean?"
"What do I mean?" Director Liu scanned their surroundings to be sure no one was listening, then whispered into Wu Tianhao’s ear, "Weren’t you the one always asking why the Li family suddenly disappeared?"
"Don’t tell me..." At those words, Wu Tianhao’s face changed dramatically, his pupils constricting in alarm.
"Yes, it was because of him!" Director Liu said. "I don't know who he really is, but the Li family's disappearance, the fall of Xingchuan Group, Han Chuanwu's death, and the Qin family's sudden departure—all of it was his doing!"
"And more than that, do you know what happened this morning in our Security Bureau?" Director Liu recounted everything that had occurred there in detail.
"What? Punishing your own officers in public and making Commander Lin kneel on the spot?" Wu Tianhao exclaimed, unable to contain his shock. Cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead, and a chill ran down his spine. Thinking back on what had just happened, he was filled with dread.
Thank heavens he had enough sense; had he truly offended this living hellbringer, the entire Wu family would have been doomed!
"Keep your voice down!"
Hearing Wu Tianhao's outburst, Director Liu's expression changed abruptly. He hastily lowered his voice. "Listen, just knowing about Chu Tianhe is enough for you. Don't breathe a word of this to anyone, or not even the gods could save your Wu family!"
"I understand, I do," Wu Tianhao replied, hurriedly wiping the sweat from his brow.
