Chapter 78
“These days, no matter who you cross, never cross the Divine Martial Guard. The War Department isn’t to be trifled with!”
“I reckon the boss is in real trouble this time!”
A group of henchmen hurried to crowd around the hotel window, peering down.
They saw Brother Eagle, his head covered in a black hood, pressed by more than ten Divine Martial Guards, shoved into a black armored vehicle!
“Xue Ziying?”
Inside the vehicle, Lin Feng’s cold voice rang out.
“Yes, yes, yes!” Xue Ziying, still wearing the hood and unable to see who sat before him, could only nod frantically.
Renowned in the underworld of Jiangzhou, Xue Ziying now acted more obediently than a beaten dog.
“Remove his hood,” Lin Feng ordered. In an instant, the hood was pulled off.
The moment he saw Lin Feng sitting opposite him, panic seized Xue Ziying. His legs buckled, and with a thud, he knelt before Lin Feng.
“Commander Lin, it’s not my fault! I haven’t done anything, I—”
Lin Feng waved his hand, cutting him off. “I know it’s not your fault.”
“Then… Commander Lin, why—why have you brought me here? What is this about?” Xue Ziying stammered nervously, cold sweat trickling down his neck.
“I’m just warning you: not a single word about today leaves your lips,” Lin Feng’s gaze was murderous as it swept over Xue Ziying, his voice sharp. “That goes for your henchmen, too.”
“If anyone dares breathe a word of today, don’t blame me for what happens.”
“Xue Ziying, I doubt you’ve seen the methods of the War Department before.”
Xue Ziying was about to wet himself with fear. Kneeling on the ground, he knocked his head repeatedly, pleading, “Commander Lin, rest assured. I’m no newcomer to the streets—I won’t say a single word about today, not a single word!”
“Please, Commander Lin, spare me!”
Tears and snot streamed down his face. He had committed countless misdeeds in his life and always knew he’d stumble one day, but never imagined it would be so humiliating.
He really hadn’t done anything!
“It’s not me sparing you—it’s Mister Chu,” Lin Feng’s eyes flashed coldly as he looked at Xue Ziying.
“Mister Chu said he doesn’t want today’s matter blown out of proportion, nor does he wish to implicate others.”
To kill Xue Ziying would only take a word from Lin Feng; the crimes he’d committed, just picking one or two would be enough to send him away forever.
But Chu Tianhe had spoken. Lin Feng dared not act out of turn, and thus Xue Ziying escaped disaster.
“Thank you, Mister Chu! Thank you, Mister Chu!” Xue Ziying knocked his head to the ground in gratitude.
“Enough,” Lin Feng’s eyes flashed coldly. “Remember what I said. Now get out of here.”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
Xue Ziying scrambled out of the vehicle as if fleeing for his life. His legs buckled and he fell to his knees again. Then he staggered toward the Divine Martial Guard captain, who unlocked his handcuffs. Xue Ziying thanked him profusely, then, like a defeated stray dog, bolted into the hotel.
“Brother Eagle, what happened?”
“The Divine Martial Guard—”
“Shut up! All of you!” Brother Eagle, still shaken, his hands trembling, grabbed a glass and gulped down water. He pulled out a cigarette, but his trembling hands couldn’t light it.
“Brother Eagle,” a henchman stepped forward to light his cigarette, finally calming him a little. He muttered, “The Living King of Hell… The Living King of Hell! Jiangzhou… Jiangzhou City… has truly welcomed the Living King of Hell!”
“He’s untouchable—no one can afford to cross him!”
“Hurry up, check if the Divine Martial Guard and the Patrol Bureau’s officers have left yet!”
