Chapter 18: Supply Crate, Little Village
He must guard the pure land within his heart; only then can he walk the path to becoming strong without being blinded by endless slaughter, truly gaining the strength to protect all he wishes to safeguard.
Yang Kelly’s thoughts were not wrong, and neither were Chen Fan’s. The fault lay with this world and those humans who fail to see reality clearly.
They do not understand the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest!
They still believe they are on Blue Star, but in this world, those driven by hunger can do anything.
Chen Fan slowly withdrew his gaze and looked at Yang Kelly, gently patting her shoulder. “Let’s go. We’ll keep searching for supplies.”
Yang Kelly nodded slightly, sheathed her iron sword, and walked alongside Chen Fan toward the distance.
Meanwhile, Li Chengdong, who had fled, found a safe spot. Following Chen Fan’s steps, he chopped down logs, dismantled them, and crafted tools.
Eventually, he assembled a furnace, his face lighting up with surprise.
He took screenshots of the crafting process and posted them in the world chat channel, adding: “Brothers, here’s the crafting method I got from Big Brother Chen Fan. Hurry up and give it a try.”
As soon as he said this, the chat channel fell silent, then a flood of messages poured in.
“Wow, upstairs is amazing to get this. Thanks, Big Brother!”
“Didn’t expect making a furnace to be so simple. You can use logs or wooden planks as fuel.”
“What kind of god is Chen Fan to know all this? I thought he stole it from a village.”
“How did you get smooth stone? It can’t be mined. When you punch it, it disappears.”
“Yeah, same here! When I dig it, it just vanishes. It’s so illogical.”
“Didn’t you look? Scroll up! Big Brother Li Chengdong already posted how to get it!”
They all had various theories about the furnace’s origin and mostly didn’t believe it could be crafted.
Now that someone said it was made with smooth stone, it shattered their understanding.
They had survived a few days in this world and knew these blocks couldn’t be broken. So how could one mine them?
Li Chengdong saw the messages but said no more. Instead, he focused on developing himself, ignoring them. He had said all he could.
As for the rest, they would have to figure it out on their own.
At this moment, Chen Fan and his group were wandering the vast plains when a bronze supply chest came into view.
Chen Fan and Yang Kelly exchanged a glance, both seeing a flicker of excitement in each other’s eyes.
They quickly ran over. Chen Fan touched the chest, and with a crisp sound, it slowly opened.
Inside were two down jackets, two bottles of healing potion, and a wheat seed.
Chen Fan handed one jacket to Yang Kelly, then opened his map to check within a 500-meter radius. Not far from them, the outline of a small village appeared.
“Kelly, I found a village,” Chen Fan said excitedly, closing the map and pointing in a direction.
Actually, encountering villages on the plains was a normal sight; meeting a few was no big deal.
As long as they could steal seeds from the village, food would no longer be a concern.
Yang Kelly looked toward the direction, seeing the faint shapes of a few rooftops on the horizon.
She frowned. “This direction... why does it feel so familiar?”
“Wait!” Suddenly, she recalled that this was the place where she had narrowly escaped with her life before.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Fan was about to step forward but paused, confused by her voice.
“Chen Fan, that direction is where I told you before—the villagers attack people.”
Villagers attack people?
Chen Fan immediately remembered what Yang Kelly had said when they first met. After a moment’s thought, he said, “Don’t worry.”
A sly smile appeared on his face as he patted his chest and added, “Watch me. When it comes to stealing, I’m an expert.”
Yang Kelly frowned slightly, unsure of Chen Fan’s intentions.
As they approached the village, Chen Fan led Yang Kelly toward a small hill on the right.
Just as they arrived, three villagers wielding stone axes climbed the hill.
They exchanged glances.
“More thieves! Get lost, or we won’t hold back.”
“Yeah, stealing from us? They really have no shame.”
“Why waste words with thieves? Let’s chase them off first.”
Their faces darkened with hostility, ready to fight.
Chen Fan hadn’t expected that his attempt to dig a tunnel would be discovered.
Determined, he prepared to kill them before digging through.
Just as he was about to strike, two familiar voices called from behind.
“Master!”
He turned to see Rem and Ram rushing over.
They had sensed Chen Fan’s location after defeating a grizzly bear nearby, as they could sense his presence.
Their clothes and faces were stained with blood, looking somewhat disheveled.
When they reached Chen Fan, the villagers suddenly trembled inexplicably.
With a thud, they knelt down.
“Welcome home, Divine Ladies.”
Chen Fan: ???
Yang Kelly: ???
Seeing this, Chen Fan and Yang Kelly exchanged puzzled looks at the villagers, then at Rem and Ram.
Their heads bobbed like rattled toys, faces filled with bewilderment.
What in the world was this?
Just moments ago, the villagers were ready to fight, and now they were giving such grand greetings?
Rem and Ram acted as if it were normal, their expressions calm as they looked at the villagers.
One villager stood and ran toward the village, shouting, “The Divine Ladies have returned! We are saved!”
The remaining two kept their heads lowered, showing full respect.
Soon, a white-haired elder emerged from a wooden cabin, clutching a cane, walking out excitedly.
Though his steps were unsteady, his pace was quick, and he soon arrived before them all.
Upon seeing Rem and Ram, tears of joy welled up in his eyes.
“Divine Ladies, you have returned! I thought I would never see you again in this lifetime.”
The elder’s appearance left Chen Fan and Yang Kelly even more bewildered.
Ram turned to ask Chen Fan what was happening. Chen Fan briefly explained the events so far.
She nodded, as if understanding, then stepped forward, her gaze icy. Suddenly, an iron sword appeared in her hand, pointed at the villagers.
“Why did you attack my master?”
At these words, the villagers looked at each other in shock.
“This... this is the Divine Ladies’ master? Then…”
Fear filled their faces as they all knelt down, a scene befitting a royal court.
“Mercy, Divine Ladies! We truly didn’t know they were your master.”
“Yes, yes! If we had known, we never would have dared.”
“We beg you not to hold this against us.”
The elder respectfully looked at Chen Fan and Yang Kelly.
“May I ask your names, honored guests?”
All twenty or so villagers fixed their gaze on Chen Fan and his companions.
Chen Fan cleared his throat twice and helped the elder up.
“My name is Chen Fan. This is my friend, Yang Kelly.”
“Ah, so it’s Lord Chen and Lady Yang. We apologize for any offense before. Please, come into the village.”
The elder smiled warmly and led the way, guiding Chen Fan’s group into the village.
