Chapter 16

Taking the elevator down to the underground parking lot, two bodyguards placed the luggage into the trunk. Ye Chunxi approached and noticed someone sitting in the back seat. Ling Qiao had been watching the surroundings carefully and, upon seeing Ye Chunxi beside Jin Yuchuan, immediately fixed her gaze. The lighting in the parking lot was dim, making it hard to discern the young woman’s features clearly.
“Master Jin,” Ling Qiao said as he stepped out of the car, his eyes locking onto Ye Chunxi, “Is this your sister?”
Hearing this, Ye Chunxi turned her head.
A breathtakingly beautiful face entered Ling Qiao’s line of sight.
Those watery doe-like eyes seemed to shimmer like apricot blossoms in a gentle rain.
Ling Qiao’s breath caught.
He hadn’t expected Master Jin to have found such a stunningly ethereal sister.
Jin Yuchuan didn’t notice his unusual reaction but instead looked at Ye Chunxi.
“I have to return to the company. Let Ling Qiao escort you home.”
Recently, many people had been investigating Ye Chunxi, but he had already arranged to cover her tracks, though there was always some risk.
With Ling Qiao escorting her, he felt reassured.
Ye Chunxi sized up Ling Qiao.
A simple shirt, with powerful muscles faintly visible beneath — clearly a bodyguard.
She nodded and took a seat in the back.
Outside the car, the two men were talking, but their words couldn’t be heard.
Jin Yuchuan got into another car, and Ling Qiao returned to the passenger seat.
Leaving the hospital, the two cars parted ways, heading in different directions.
Peering through the rearview mirror, Ling Qiao studied the young girl in the backseat.
No matter how many times he looked, he was still stunned by her beauty.
A top figure in the world of traditional Chinese medicine, and yet so breathtakingly beautiful.
How had she ended up with Master Jin?
Ling Qiao was quite curious about their relationship.
But since Jin Yuchuan refused to elaborate, he could only ask Ye Chunxi.
“Miss Ye, how do you know that Master Jin is your brother?”
This was the most glaring and melodramatic flaw in the whole story.
Ye Chunxi lowered her head, staring at the tablet in her hands, answering casually, “Maybe it’s the bond of blood.”
After waking up, she only recognized Jin Yuchuan.
Ling Qiao twitched at the corner of his mouth.
“Blood bond?”
Master Jin’s parents had long passed away; what blood bond was there?
He must be crazy to ask an amnesiac that kind of question.

Thirty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a building halfway up a mountain.
Only then did Ye Chunxi lift her head, tidying her things before stepping out.
As soon as she stood still, she caught sight of the vast estate before her and her brows twitched sharply.
This was... utterly extravagant!
The plaque above the gate was gilded with the two characters “Deer Garden.”
Passing through the gate, the white walls and gray tiles led to a huge artificial lake and exquisitely crafted pavilions and waterside terraces, resembling a traditional Chinese garden.
A light drizzle hung in the air, adding a layer of mist.
Ling Qiao had been equally awestruck the first time he came here.
“I don’t know what Master Jin was thinking, buying such a large garden but rarely visiting. Just leaving it like this is a waste.”
Ye Chunxi agreed silently.
At the same time, she realized Ling Qiao wasn’t a mere bodyguard.
If he were, he wouldn’t be complaining about his boss in front of her.
Before they reached the garden, an elderly man in his fifties emerged, holding an oil-paper umbrella.
“Young Master Ling.”
He greeted Ling Qiao, then looked kindly at Ye Chunxi.
Intentionally, he tilted the umbrella toward her and instructed someone behind to hand it over.
“Miss Ye, my surname is Kong. I am the steward of Deer Garden. The Young Master has already instructed me to take you to your residence.”
Standing at the foot of the steps, the girl’s gaze rested on the distant mountains.
Her long lashes were dotted with raindrops, and a few droplets fell from her hair.
She turned back, accepting the oil-paper umbrella with a faint smile.
“Thank you, Uncle Kong.”
The young girl was beautiful and polite; calling him “Uncle Kong” struck a chord in his heart.
The steward’s eyes crinkled with a smile.
“You’re welcome, Miss Ye.”
In the center of the garden lay a large artificial lake, with a narrow part bridged by a wooden walkway.
Steward Kong led the group across the bridge to a building by the water.
The Waterside Pavilion.
Ling Qiao clicked his tongue repeatedly.
“I only get to stay in a side room, and yet Master Jin lets you live alone in an entire courtyard.”
After all these years of camaraderie, he was outmatched by a foundling sister!
Ye Chunxi was unaware of his thoughts or his relationship with Jin Yuchuan.
Looking at the Waterside Pavilion, it seemed fitting.
Inside, the ancient-style architecture blended seamlessly with modern technology, causing no sense of discord.
Steward Kong stood at the door, maintaining a respectful distance.
“Miss Ye, you can unpack first. If you need anything, just contact me.” He took out his phone. “This is my number.”
Ye Chunxi saved the steward’s number and bid him farewell.
Turning around, she found Ling Qiao sitting on a rattan chair by the window, legs casually crossed, swaying back and forth leisurely.
Above hung a string of vintage wind chimes, ringing softly.
The bodyguards had put down the luggage and left, leaving only the two of them inside.

Ling Qiao’s demeanor was overly casual, showing no sense of propriety in someone else’s home.
Ye Chunxi furrowed her brows.
“What is your relationship with my brother?”
Ling Qiao blurted out, “Brothers.”
Brothers who had faced life and death together.
Recalling how Ling Qiao had addressed Jin Yuchuan before, Ye Chunxi naturally assumed it was a bond of righteousness and loyalty.
The first floor was the living room; Ye Chunxi ignored him and headed upstairs to the bedroom.
She didn’t have many belongings; the room had been prepared in advance by the servants.
Ye Chunxi put down her backpack and glanced out the window.
The rain had lessened, now fine and light, silent without the usual pitter-patter.
The distant mountains were shrouded in mist, quiet and serene.
Retracting her gaze, Ye Chunxi looked at the desktop computer on the table with growing interest.
After watching a cartoon for a couple of minutes, she felt it was a waste.
She exited and casually tapped a few keys.
With a beep, the screen went black.
Before she could react, the computer sprang to life, displaying a string of colorful characters, appearing like gibberish.
She stared for a while, then suddenly remembered something and opened her phone’s notes.
There was only one note, a chaotic jumble of characters.
These characters were the only thing she remembered after waking up.
Ye Chunxi had tried to decipher their meaning but to no avail.
Now, seeing the gibberish again, she pursed her lips.
For some reason, she felt she could understand it.
With a trial mindset, after two minutes, she figured out how to use the characters.
It was a username and password.
As if awakened, a faint electric current tingled deep within her brain.
Ignoring the prickling pain, she typed a character — X.
The screen changed, and Ye Chunxi became clearer-headed, as if a veil had lifted.
Before she could study further, a line of text appeared on the screen:
“Boss, you finally remembered your password!!”
Two excited emojis followed.
Ye Chunxi’s brow lifted slightly.
Boss?
The person on the other side knew her?
Despite her amnesia, she dared not confirm, simply replying calmly:
“Mm.”
