Chapter 7: Discharge from the Hospital, Little Brother Comes to Find Me
“Is it because your sister refuses to come back?” Mu Xingxiao looked up, her dark, beautiful eyes flickering with subtle emotion.
Mu Yiheng frowned slightly, unsure how to explain, and simply gave up.
“Rest well at home today. Don’t go to the studio; take a day off for yourself.”
Mu Xingxiao noticed his impatience and didn’t ask further, nodding silently.
Outside the room, Secretary Lin Huan was waiting.
“President Mu, next Thursday in Jin City there will be a seminar focused on Alzheimer’s disease, gathering many renowned doctors. We have an opportunity for you to audit the sessions; what do you think...?”
At the mention of “Jin City,” Mu Yiheng’s eyes flickered briefly.
He paused to think for two seconds, then decisively said, “Clear my schedule for that day. I will go in person.”
In the bedroom.
Mu Xingxiao had just called the studio to request a day off.
Recalling how her older brother had looked impatient when she mentioned her little sister, she pressed her lips together.
Her slender, fair hand sank into the bedding, fingers curling tightly. Her downcast eyes flickered uncertainly, as if lost in thought.
After a long moment, she called again.
“Let’s set the location for next week’s scouting trip to Lin City.”
The assistant on the other end paused, clearly surprised.
“Weren’t you struggling to decide before? Why the sudden choice? Should I check with the others?”
“No need,” Mu Xingxiao decisively refused.
She took a breath and explained, “Although Lin City is a smaller cultural ancient town, not comparable to the other cities we’re interested in, and its traditional craftsmanship and intangible heritage skills are seldom sought after, that’s exactly why I chose it.
Promoting traditional culture continuously attracts new participants, but lesser-known inheritors remain overlooked. Our series aims to revive those hidden gems and let them shine once more.”
The assistant listened quietly and expressed agreement. “Very well, I’ll arrange it. We’ll go to Lin City next week.”
After hanging up, Mu Xingxiao clenched her phone tightly.
She had indeed hesitated over the scouting location for the new clothing line.
Another reason she chose Lin City was its proximity to Jin City—just an hour and a half’s drive.
...
After several days hospitalized, Ye Chunxi’s injuries were no longer serious.
The doctors confirmed her recovery was good, all indicators normal, and she could be discharged early.
But given her amnesia, they recommended observation.
Jin Yuchuan refused.
Although the hospital’s medical standards were high, it was not the optimal environment he could provide for Ye Chunxi.
...
That afternoon, Nan Sheng, who regularly delivered meals, conveyed Jin Yuchuan’s intentions and informed Ye Chunxi she could be discharged tomorrow.
Hearing this, Ye Chunxi’s heart lifted.
Suddenly she remembered that during her hospital stay, she had only seen Jin Yuchuan the day she regained consciousness, and a wave of loneliness washed over her.
Her hand gripping the chopsticks tightened, her voice low and listless.
“Will my brother come to pick me up tomorrow?”
Though she had comforted herself countless times that he was busy with affairs and couldn’t spare time, she still couldn’t help but hope.
Nan Sheng heard her mood clearly.
“Master Jin is busy. I can’t say for sure. You can send him a message, but he probably won’t reply promptly.”
After many days with her friend, this was Ye Chunxi’s first message to Jin Yuchuan.
Her fingers hovered, hesitating before typing a simple question—
“Brother, will you come to pick me up when I’m discharged tomorrow?”
No reply came even as Nan Sheng prepared to leave.
He watched Ye Chunxi’s lonely figure and felt deeply distressed.
Though it was clear Jin Yuchuan most likely wouldn’t come, considering her identity and importance, Nan Sheng still inquired.
At his desk, Jin Yuchuan’s slender hand held a pen, rhythmically tapping on the table.
Hearing the report, he raised his head suddenly.
Behind golden-rimmed glasses, his deep black eyes were light yet imposing.
“Did she really react that way?”
Nan Sheng replied immediately, “Yes, Miss Ye is very downcast, barely eating, frequently glancing at her phone, probably checking for your reply.”
Jin Yuchuan set down the pen and picked up his phone.
The sleek black device flipped smoothly between his fingers.
Opening WeChat, indeed, Ye Chunxi had sent him a message.
But he had been in a meeting at the time, phone off, so he hadn’t noticed.
His brows lowered, eyes thoughtful.
Bai Lan’s disappearance had caused a huge impact on the entire medical alliance.
Yet after so many days, there was no sign from that side, and the Jin City secret division was unusually quiet.
Videos of the car accident had been widely shared online.
Behind it all, it seemed an unseen hand was silently manipulating...
Jin Yuchuan composed himself, instructed Nan Sheng to rearrange tomorrow’s schedule, and sent a single word back: “Will.”
...
The next day.
Ye Chunxi was ready early to be discharged, dressed in casual clothes Nan Sheng had sent in advance.
A hazy mist-blue long dress draped over her, complementing her pale skin, soft and elegant.
The fabric gleamed richly, the ruffled hem flowing gracefully, matching her cool, aloof appearance.
Her tall figure stood out, exuding an aura as if detached from the mundane world.
No unnecessary adornments marred her look; even a fleeting glance left one in a daze over her beauty.
Nan Sheng completed the discharge paperwork and told Ye Chunxi to wait patiently, arranging for several people to help carry her belongings.
...
Outside the hospital, inside a tightly sealed van.
The man in the driver’s seat glanced up at the rearview mirror.
The back seats had been removed, replaced with high-end computer equipment.
A bespectacled man quietly watched the screen, letting out an impressed sigh.
“What kind of trouble has the boss stirred up? Five people came out of her room besides doctors and nurses.
There were two bodyguards stationed at the door and patrols near the elevator.”
The man in front, bored and unwilling to listen, cut him off.
“Just give me the location.”
The glasses-wearing man belatedly provided the floor and room number.
Still uneasy, before the other man got out, he grabbed his strong arm.
“Are you sure you can handle so many people and get the boss out without causing too much commotion?”
The glasses man worried, “According to hospital records, the boss has amnesia and won’t go with you willingly.”
His companion replied casually, “Then just knock her out and carry her away.”
The glasses man was speechless.
No matter how many times, he was always shocked by the other’s blunt and violent methods.
Still concerned, he silently hacked into the hospital’s system, trying to minimize exposure risks.
Meanwhile, in another vehicle.
The sound of keyboard typing echoed in Jin Yuchuan’s ears as he frowned slightly.
The rapid typing ceased, and he finally received a message.
“There is abnormal signal interference from a gray van three hundred meters ahead.”
