Chapter 4: Clutching His Hand in Distress, Lord Jin's Silent Concern
Mu Yiheng took a deep breath, suppressing the surge of emotion within him. His grip tightened unconsciously, and his voice turned cold and firm. “You’d better take good care of my sister. Don’t even think of having any improper intentions toward her.”
Jin Yuchuan chuckled lightly. “Don’t worry, I’m not interested in your sister.”
Mu Yiheng didn’t believe him.
He knew Jin Yuchuan’s nature well—utterly mercenary.
To him, Ye Chunxi was nothing more than the daughter of the Mu family, with no other value.
Adopting her must have some ulterior motive.
Yet, given the circumstances, Mu Yiheng was helpless and could only agree.
After hanging up, Jin Yuchuan lifted his gaze.
Xiurou Meigu’s delicate hand reached toward his ear, her slender fingers lightly tapping the Bluetooth earpiece. “Continue.”
“In short, the girl’s records are too incomplete. She only arrived at the orphanage at age twelve. Everything before that has been deliberately concealed. We’re still working hard to break through,” the voice on the other end reported.
The green light from the computer screen reflected off Jin Yuchuan’s face, his dark eyes eerily calm.
Displayed was a file with black background and green text:
[Registration Information of Orphans at Jingyang Orphanage.]
His gaze settled on the entry for [Ye Chunxi], admitted five years ago in December.
December…
Jin Yuchuan’s eyes narrowed slightly. His naturally smiling peach blossom eyes curved gently, shimmering and enchanting.
But his expression grew colder; his black-and-white pupils revealed no emotion, shrouded in mist—impossible to discern anger or joy.
If he remembered correctly, that December was a turbulent time for the secret division in Jin City.
A faint smirk curled at his lips as he murmured, “Looks like I’m not the only one interested in her.”
The person on the other side couldn’t hear clearly and didn’t dare to ask more.
After a moment of contemplation, Jin Yuchuan asked again, “What’s the status with the Medical Alliance?”
The reply came immediately: “No signs at all. If we’ve got the right person, our earlier suspicions have been further confirmed.”
How could an ordinary medic, without help from a master, hide their tracks and vanish repeatedly under the watch of top hackers like them?
Only a handful in the world could match such skill.
Jin Yuchuan’s gaze dimmed slightly as he recalled the rejected commission.
He composed himself and, after ordering, “Continue the investigation,” cut off the call.
His smooth fingers lightly tapped the desk, pressing a button. Nan Sheng outside responded instantly and pushed open the door.
“Master Jin,” he said respectfully, bowing slightly.
Jin Yuchuan stood, grabbed the suit jacket draped over the chair, and strode out.
---
“Go to the hospital.”
…
At dusk, the sun slowly set, and the sky, like silk brocade, shimmered with radiant hues. Orange light streamed through the window, casting onto the solitary figure on the hospital bed, making the scene appear even more desolate.
Ye Chunxi gazed blankly out the window, quietly watching the changing colors of the sky.
The warm, flowing palette darkened; purple and pink twilight hues blurred into each other, vast and splendid, breathtakingly beautiful.
The bustling footsteps outside made her slightly restless. One set drew nearer, stopping at the door.
Startled, Ye Chunxi turned her head.
The fading twilight cast a hazy, dim light around the approaching figure.
The sky’s soft purples and pale pinks seemed like silk draped over him, dulling his features but failing to conceal his clear, noble beauty. Instead, it lent him an air of mystery, perfectly showcasing his elegant and refined aura.
Jin Yuchuan walked slowly toward her, lowering his head. Their eyes met.
He looked down at her with a detached expression. The scent of pine and cedar wafted softly from him, soothing Ye Chunxi’s tense nerves.
For a moment, her emotions slipped from control.
“Brother…” she whispered, her clear, lively eyes shimmering with tears, her voice touched with softness that could melt hearts.
“Where have you been?”
She felt wronged, grabbing his hand tightly, afraid he would leave her again.
Jin Yuchuan glanced at the hand clutching his, his brows tightening slightly.
The girl’s hand was cool, sending a jolt through his nerves.
Looking up at the darkening sky, he caught the shimmering light in her eyes. His heart softened suddenly, and with restrained tone, he said, “I’m busy. I don’t have much time to spend with you.”
The girl on the bed pressed her lips together and reluctantly withdrew her hand, lowering her head like a child who had done wrong.
“It’s me who doesn’t understand.”
But in truth, she was very understanding—so much so it hurt.
Jin Yuchuan’s expression flickered slightly, surprised by her personality, which was completely different from what he’d heard before.
He glanced sideways, and Nan Sheng, waiting at the door, immediately turned on the lights.
The bright light shone on Ye Chunxi’s pale skin, making it seem to glow, casting a faint halo around her.
She raised her slender, delicate hand to shield her eyes, adjusting to the brightness.
When she lowered it, a light meal had been placed on the small table beside her.
From above came a deep voice.
“I heard you didn’t eat much this afternoon. Is the hospital food that bad?”
Ye Chunxi touched her stomach guiltily but said nothing.
---
Jin Yuchuan shifted slightly, his long, strong fingers grabbing a nearby stool, pulling it over and sitting beside the bed.
“If you don’t like it, don’t eat. From now on, the house chef will prepare your meals, and Nan Sheng will bring them to you.”
Hearing the new name, Ye Chunxi instinctively looked up at Nan Sheng, who was arranging the utensils.
After everything was ready, Nan Sheng took out a phone from his bag.
“Miss Ye, this is a phone Master Jin prepared for you. My contact is saved inside; if you need anything, just reach out.”
Ye Chunxi took the phone and immediately opened the contacts, seeing only one number saved. She asked in confusion, “Why isn’t Brother’s number saved?”
Nan Sheng smiled awkwardly. “Master Jin is usually very busy. It’s better not to call him recklessly.”
Ye Chunxi’s face fell, responding weakly and dejectedly, “Oh.”
Since he entered, Jin Yuchuan had been watching her reactions carefully.
Her sadness and loneliness were so genuine, it made him feel faintly disoriented.
After a moment’s silence, he took the phone from her hand.
The girl’s puzzled gaze met his, but he said calmly, “Contact me on WeChat if anything comes up. Don’t call.”
Ye Chunxi watched quietly as he registered a new WeChat account for her and added contacts, feeling something was off.
“Why register a new WeChat?”
Jin Yuchuan paused briefly, considering, then answered frankly, “The original SIM card was severely damaged in the car accident. Just in case, we registered a new one.”
After accepting the friend request, he returned the phone.
Ye Chunxi eagerly opened the only contact on WeChat and tagged it “Brother.”
Nan Sheng urged, “Miss Ye, eat while it’s still warm.”
“Hmm,” Ye Chunxi replied softly, picking up her chopsticks. Then she suddenly turned to him, “When can I be discharged?”
Jin Yuchuan raised an eyebrow. “You’re eager to leave?”
“No.”
Her earlier grievance seemed healed. Her voice was calm. “I just feel there are still some things I haven’t finished.”
