Chapter 8: Someone Familiar? Deer Park
Jin Yuchuan lowered his eyes, gazing at her.
The young woman was dressed in fresh, elegant tones today, much like a noble and pure magnolia blooming in the mountains. She drew the frequent, lingering gazes of those around her, yet no one dared to approach. Her cold, aloof demeanor, coupled with an unintentional sense of detachment, made her someone others felt they could only admire from a distance.
Ye Chunxi turned her head, looking toward the direction of the exhibition center.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, blocking her view. Ye Chunxi looked up. The man before her wore black, exuding a powerful aura. His eyes, deep as pools, and his stern, chiseled face carried a majesty that was enough to make one shiver.
Mu Yiheng shifted his gaze, his eyes fixed on her with a complex, silent appraisal. She appeared unharmed, her complexion even retaining a slight, healthy flush. It seemed that Jin Yuchuan had been taking quite good care of her.
Mu Yiheng felt a touch of relief. He reached out and placed his hand gently on her shoulder, a gesture intended to assert his presence.
"Yuchuan..."
Before he could finish, the hand resting on Ye Chunxi’s shoulder was suddenly seized. Before Mu Yiheng could react, a powerful force surged through his arm, and with a swift shoulder throw, he was slammed heavily to the ground.
The onlookers were stunned. Secretary Lin’s eyes widened, and he immediately rushed forward to help Mu Yiheng up. "Mr. Mu!" he called out, filled with concern.
Mu Yiheng sat up, wincing in pain. He clutched his chest and could not help but cough several times.
Jin Yuchuan stood frozen for a moment, staring at Ye Chunxi in disbelief. Mu Yiheng, now helped to his feet, also looked at her.
Ye Chunxi, under their scrutiny, felt a twinge of guilt, but she responded with composure: "I don't like being touched by others. It was an instinctive reaction."
She faced Mu Yiheng directly, her tone sincere: "I apologize; I didn't control my strength." However, she remained firm: "But it is true that you touched me first."
The implication was clear: he had brought this upon himself.
Mu Yiheng coughed violently, the corners of his eyes turning slightly red. He seemed stunned by the fall. After a long moment, he looked at Ye Chunxi with a gaze full of curiosity and surprise. "That was impressive. You’ve trained before."
Though she had lost her memories, Ye Chunxi’s movements had been remarkably fluid. As she moved, she had clearly felt a shift in the internal energy within her body. She nodded, "I suppose so."
Mu Yiheng let out a cold laugh. On the day he reunited with Ye Chunxi, he had heard of her reputation as a "little bully." She hadn't shown a shred of fear when facing boys twice her size, beating them until they rolled on the ground, even knocking out a few of their teeth. People at the orphanage claimed she used to be a hoodlum, but Mu Yiheng did not believe it. He had intended to investigate further once she returned home, but he hadn't expected to arrive at this conclusion through personal experience.
Being touched by a strange man made Ye Chunxi feel repulsed. Yet, knowing she had been too heavy-handed, she spoke reluctantly: "I can pay for your medical expenses. Seeing that you are dressed so impeccably, I advise you to act like a gentleman. Don't waste such a good appearance, and don't entertain any delusions of taking advantage of me."
Mu Yiheng, being lectured by his own younger sister, was speechless.
Jin Yuchuan let out a soft scoff and tentatively placed his hand on Ye Chunxi’s shoulder. "It’s alright, he won't blame you." He turned his head, smiling at Mu Yiheng. "Isn't that right, A-Heng?"
Mu Yiheng glared at his hand, feeling his chest pain intensify.
Ye Chunxi frowned slightly and turned to ask, "Do you know each other?"
As if feeling uncomfortable under Mu Yiheng’s intense gaze, Jin Yuchuan withdrew his hand and explained smoothly: "The Mu family has always provided funding for the Medical Alliance. I was only able to enter this seminar thanks to the favor of the eldest young master of the Mu family." He subtly bolstered Mu Yiheng’s standing in her eyes. "I told the eldest young master about your condition, and he invited me to bring you here, hoping to have an expert examine you."
Despite this, Ye Chunxi still felt annoyed with Mu Yiheng. However, knowing she had benefited from his help, she softened her tone and said sincerely: "Thank you, Young Master Mu. I was a bit reckless just now."
Mu Yiheng knew his actions had been presumptuous; after all, his sister no longer remembered him, and they were essentially strangers. He adjusted himself, trying to ease the pain in his chest, then pulled his arm away from his secretary and straightened his suit jacket. "It’s fine. Let’s go in."
His recovery was remarkably fast. Ye Chunxi arched a brow, a strange, inexplicable feeling stirring in her heart. She didn't dwell on it and followed Jin Yuchuan inside, led by Mu Yiheng.
Having been thrown to the ground, Mu Yiheng’s suit was dusted with dirt, which gave him an unexpectedly comical appearance that made Ye Chunxi curl her lips into a smile.
...
Led by Secretary Lin, they went straight into the venue and took seats in the furthest corner. On the stage, an elderly man seated in the center was speaking. Judging by his words and the nameplate barely visible in front of him, he appeared to be the Vice President of the Medical Alliance.
Ye Chunxi was stunned. As the most authoritative medical organization in the country, this level of seminar was only attended by the industry's elite. Without an invitation, it would be impossible to enter.
Jin Yuchuan noticed her confusion and explained: "The Mu family provides the bulk of the funding for the Alzheimer’s project, and has done so for over a decade. Whenever this topic is involved, the Mu family holds special privileges."
Other leaders spoke in turn, followed by a report from a renowned neurology expert on recent progress in treating Alzheimer's disease, who began to elaborate on several new treatment plans.
Just then, Mu Yiheng quietly slipped through the door. He had changed into a fresh suit and groomed his hair again. He came over and sat beside Jin Yuchuan, listening in silence.
Ye Chunxi, however, had little interest. She leaned slightly to the side, a trace of weariness washing over her.
"Next, we move to the open discussion period." The moderator, an elderly man and a famous expert in neurology from the Medical Alliance, looked out at the audience and spoke gently: "If anyone has new insights regarding these treatment plans, please feel free to speak up. Let us all pool our wisdom for this discussion."
The experts present, all well-prepared, soon proposed several plans, yet none were quite complete.
In the corner, the fair-skinned, delicate girl listened attentively to the speeches, occasionally lowering her head to mark revisions on her own notes.
The elderly man on stage looked toward her with precision. His aged face held a warm smile, indescribably kind. "Yue, girl, do you have any insights?"
Almost instantly, every gaze in the hall turned toward the young woman in the back rows. The room was filled with titans of medicine who had practiced for decades or made significant contributions to the industry. The sudden appearance of such a young face—barely in her twenties—made everyone skeptical. It was baffling, sparking rumors and brewing prejudice.
Hearing herself being called, Qiao Tiyue looked up. Noticing the intense, expectant gaze of the old man and hearing the whispers of those around her, she remained composed. She picked up her notes, which were already marked with several edits, and walked toward the podium.
