Chapter 119: The Fierce Corpse Crosses the River
"Damn it!"
At the opposite end of the bridge, a cat-faced old woman gnashed her sharp teeth, her eyes filled with resentment. She had not expected her opponent to possess awakened psychic abilities. Since a zombie’s mental strength is inferior to that of a human, psychic awakening is extremely rare among the undead, and it acted as a direct counter to her.
In the center of the battlefield, the tall figure of Chiyan stood out prominently. His skin was a reddish-brown, hard as rock, and virtually impenetrable. It was an absolute defense. Even when elite zombies bit him, their teeth shattered upon impact, and with a casual wave of his hand, Chiyan would pulverize their skulls. Wherever he passed, corpses were scattered in his wake; his ferocity was truly terrifying.
However, just as he was reveling in the slaughter, a massive pressure suddenly descended from afar, like a surging sea of blood. It was clear that a true king had entered the fray.
Lin Dong, dressed in a crisp white shirt, walked through the blood-soaked battlefield with an indifferent expression, as if he were taking a leisurely stroll. Any hostile zombie that dared to approach him would instantly explode, dissipating into a mist of blood.
"The opponent has arrived!" Chiyan’s expression turned cautious.
With a mere thought from Lin Dong, his terrifying "Zombie Domain" expanded to its limit. Nearby abandoned vehicles began to hum, then twisted and deformed, disintegrating on their own. The scene before them was like the onset of a natural disaster.
Chiyan felt his body sink as he was enveloped by the domain; it felt as if he were carrying a small mountain on his back. However, with his A+ rank strength and his focus on physical prowess, he was not rendered immobile. But the elite zombies around him were not so fortunate—their bones cracked and groaned as if squeezed by an invisible giant, and their faces twisted in agony.
"Roar!" They let out wails of despair before collapsing to the ground.
"His killing power is too great! I must stop him!" The Zombie King Chiyan stared intently, realizing that Lin Dong was nothing short of a "battlefield meat grinder."
Gritting his teeth and resisting the overwhelming pressure, he leaped forward, moving with agility as he threw a punch. Lin Dong did not dodge; with a wave of his hand, a long blade materialized in his grip, which he swung with lethal intent.
*Clang!*
A piercing metallic screech echoed as the blade slashed across Chiyan’s rocky skin. Sparks flew, and even the edge of the blade developed several notches.
"So, that’s all you’ve got..." Chiyan smirked, realizing that even Lin Dong could not break his defense.
"Is that so?" Lin Dong muttered. He then extended his slender fingers and reached straight for Chiyan’s skull.
Chiyan’s brow furrowed in a sudden premonition of doom, and he instinctively tilted his head to dodge. Lin Dong’s fingers grazed right past his forehead.
"That was close!" Chiyan seized the opportunity to throw another punch, aiming directly at Lin Dong’s face.
"Die!"
This time, Lin Dong sheathed his blade and clenched his hand into a fist, meeting the strike head-on.
*Boom!*
The two collided like stars, sending shockwaves of air rippling outward. The ground beneath their feet cracked, and the entire bridge trembled, shaking many zombies off the edge.
*Crack!*
A crisp sound echoed from Chiyan’s arm, which fractured like breaking stone as cracks appeared across its surface. His entire body, struck by immense force, flew backward as if hit by a locomotive. He crushed several zombies in his path and tumbled across the ground a dozen times before finally coming to a stop, looking utterly disheveled.
"He's so strong!" Chiyan was horrified. It was the first time he had encountered a zombie with superior physical strength to his own. Could it be... has he already broken through to S-rank?
High above, Tech Corp’s drones buzzed, live-streaming the entire battle. Ye Jian and his executives stared intently at the massive screen.
"This Zombie King Chiyan is such a loser!" Ye Jian slammed his fist against the table in anger. Initially, he had held high hopes for Chiyan, thinking he might at least force a mutual destruction with Lin Dong, but he hadn't expected him to be unable to withstand even a single punch. Furthermore, although Chiyan’s horde had the advantage in numbers, they lacked quality and were being suppressed and systematically crushed. The epic battle he had envisioned had turned into a one-sided massacre.
"Useless! Absolutely useless!" Ye Jian shouted in rage. It seemed the Zombie King from the skyscraper district was stronger, but the problem was... he had already burned bridges with him. If Lin Dong annexed Chiyan’s territory, would he then lead his horde to attack the company? Under the current circumstances, he could only wait for Liu Baiyue’s reinforcements.
Chiyan, covered in dust and grime, climbed back up. His regenerative abilities were potent, and the cracks in his arm were mending at a visible rate. Glancing over, he saw Lin Dong walking toward him, step by step, his pace steady and unhurried.
"I’m done playing with you!" Chiyan decided to retreat, intending to return only after he had reached S-rank. He secretly issued an order, and the surrounding elite zombies began to pull back. The dense horde retreated from the bridge like an ebbing tide.
Chiyan then raised his fist and slammed it into the bridge deck.
"Rumble!"
The immense force caused the road to shatter, sending debris flying and creating deep fissures. Even the bridge piers developed cracks. However, this single blow was not enough to collapse the structure entirely. He raised his fist again.
This time, the pier shattered completely. The bridge deck began to collapse, with countless rocks falling into the river below, creating massive splashes. The steel cables above groaned and wailed under the pressure before snapping with a flurry of metallic cracks. The bridge collapsed, leaving a gaping, jagged chasm dozens of meters wide. Smoke and dust rose as the two zombie factions were completely cut off from one another.
"Roar!" The Tank, frustrated, was unwilling to accept this; the battle had just been reaching a fever pitch when they destroyed the bridge.
"How despicable! You cowardly zombies, cowards!"
"Hmph!" Chiyan scoffed, unbothered. In the current situation, only the opposing Zombie King would have the ability to cross the river. But without his massive horde, even a few Zombie Kings would be nothing more than cannon fodder. He felt quite secure. "What? Unhappy? Come over here then if you're not!"
"You’re infuriating!" The Tank roared and gestured wildly, seething at the provocation from across the divide.
But just as Chiyan was feeling triumphant, a wave of cold spread through the air. The temperature plummeted, and the surface of the river began to crack as frost rapidly crystallized.
"This is..." Chiyan’s expression turned to shock. He looked toward the source of the chill and realized that several human ice-element awakeners were channeling their powers to the limit.
Under the biting cold, the river was quickly frozen solid. In the blink of an eye, a solid, wide "ice bridge" had formed, stretching all the way to the opposite bank.
"Roar!"
A legion of zombies came charging across the ice. They were nimble and moved with incredible speed—it was Lin Dong’s elite force of five hundred.
"The real battle begins now," Lin Dong said, his eyes fixed ahead.
Chiyan’s eyes widened in disbelief. He never expected that Lin Dong would actually collaborate with human awakeners!
"That crafty bastard!"
